A Proud Teaching Tradition
Mitch started studying at age six with his dad, Al, the well-respected professional drummer who performed top gigs across the US and abroad, at the White House, and on TV. In the late '40s Al started teaching, becoming the sought-after instructor for beginners and professionals.
Al mentored Mitch to start teaching at age fifteen. Mitch has adopted Al's unique methods along with his original educational materials. In the tradition of Al — who originally taught in Newark and then West Orange — instruction is focused on theory, technique, and practical playing from classical to contemporary styles. Materials include Al's original works along with an array of classic drum books, including Joel Rothman's books.
Mitch is an accomplished percussionist, a big supporter of music education for all, and a thoughtful, conscientious teacher. He performs regularly in various groups throughout Central Jersey and is just as handy on a regimental snare drum as he is on a drum set. He would serve the novice or advanced student very well. — Nicholas O'Sullivan, Band Director, Governor Livingston High School
